Found it!

I've found out where to use the 3073!
Stoney said he had checked myspace, flickr and IMDB, so I decided to check that as well. Eventually I entered 3073 as a number in the adress bar at the IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0003073/) and found a random movie. I checked the message board, and there it is; the next message from max! :)

Perhaps it was the flickr of a candle, which set the capital ablaze.
Pray tell: 'Forty-three if eager hate.'

I'm looking in to what this could mean and I wonder where Max will lead us next..

Dang, I didn't even think to look at the messages for that movie on IMDB.

With this new riddle, the flickr of a candle, is pointing us to flickr.com. And I'm thinking the rest of the message is probably an anagram. Which will show us what to search for.

err, I made the same mistake too, so don't feel bad stonej.

Scrath the anagram idea. Sound it out!

43..if eager hate. ;)

I would have never figured that out - good thing there are more experienced people here. I did learn alot about King Charles XII though.

Sounding out if eager hate to me sounds like figure 8, but so far I can't find anything on flickr. I'm probably way off base with this.

yeah I got invigorate myself, but I also tried figure 8. I've been looking in the comments (since he used the IMDB message board before).

'Forty-three if eager hate' is an anagram of 'the year of the great fire'

the great fire of London was in 1666, searching in flickr, finds user Max 1666 here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/8568530@N04/
the coded comment for the great fire pic is a vigenere cipher (key: ecnadiug) and decrypts to:

once you have decrypted this piece of text using my key from chang mai this will be your next mission london on earls court road there is a baggage storage you will need a certain document this can be found on the auction website of ebay find me there and search ebay for the word ihavefoundthekey then use the year you found along with the key as a codeword so i will believe you found the key good luck

"you will need a certain document this can be found on the auction website of ebay find me there and search ebay for the word ihavefoundthekey"

I found a maxprescott on ebay. He registered within the last few weeks, it says he's from NY, but he's no longer a registered user. I've searched ebay for "ihavefoundthekey" with no luck. Anyone else? Maybe the auction expired or it was found?

Btw, nice solve there, grumpyboy. Sorry if I sent anyone off on the wrong track with my sounds like figure eight stuff, but it did.:-D

I have searched for ihavefoundthekey on ebay too, I even searched ebay.uk. Nothing comes up. I had the same results as stonej searching for Max Prescott. Also tried it backwards and tried max1666. Either the auction expired or it hasn't been listed yet. I don't know why maxprescott is no longer a registered user though, maybe that isn't the right Max.

If you search for "I found the key"
instead of "ifoundthekey", there are 13,890 items for sale on ebay.

If you search for "I have found the key max prescott", English Coat of Arms comes up as well as some other items.

Not me d. You must have figured out a secret to ebay searching but I don't get any results using those search phrases.

dashcat -
when you search, you need to check the box "search title and description" - you will now get 14073 items for "I have found the key and 2 items for "I have found the key max prescott", and another 23 items for "I have found the key max prescott" in the ebay stores.
